Save On Foods - Organic

Have you tried organic products yet? This is a fast-growing trend around the world today but many people are still skeptical about the benefits of organic foods and other products. Now, the evidence is coming in that it really is a good idea to integrate organic style into your home.

1 - Studies Indicate Organic Foods are More Nutritious for You.

Yes, it's true. New research findings done in a 10 year study show that organic tomatoes have more antioxidants than conventionally grown tomatoes; another study done on peaches indicate that organic varieties have a higher polyphenol content and that organically-grown kiwis had significantly higher levels of Vitamin C and polyphenols.

2 - The FDA Allows Almost Any Ingredient in Cosmetics and Perfumes

Straight from the FDA handbook: "With the exception of color additives and a few prohibited ingredients, a cosmetic manufacturer may, on his own responsibility, use essentially any raw material as a cosmetic ingredient and market the product without approval (italics added). Until there's a problem, the FDA is ok with just about anything that goes into your expensive bottle of face cleanser.

3 - Foods that have been genetically modified have not been proven to be safe.

You may not realize it but many of the fruits and vegetables that you are buying at your local supermarket are GMO's - genetically modified organisms. That's where the farmers use genetic engineering to modify a food's appearance or texture to make it look better or add a new trait. The purpose initially was to make the foods more nutritious but ironically, these GMO foods haven't been tested long term to see how they affect people's health.

4 - Most synthetic cleaning solutions contain toxic chemicals.

The reason is because most syntheric cleaning solutions are petroleum-based and the by-products are toxic. Ever had to open a window when you're cleaning your bathroom because the fumes from the cleaning products were so bad? Organic cleaning solutions smell pleasant and actually do a better job of cleaning without toxic fumes.

5 - You'll Save Money Long Term.

Initially, it might be more expensive to "go organic" but if you take it one small step at a time, you'll find ways to save money. Start going to farmer's markets and get to know your local farmers. They'll tell you how they grow their crops and you'll be able to get authentic organic produce there. Usually, farmer's market produce is much cheaper than the grocery store. If you have a lot of people to feed, find a local organic food co-op. You can make your own cleaning solutions and skin care from stuff in your pantry or look online for good sources of organic products.

If you decide that organic is right for you, educate yourself about what organic is all about and be a wise consumer.
